28. Buy an item at a flea market and refurbish it
We finally made it to the For Greene Flea Market, which doesn't seem to be a true flea market at all, but rather a collections of artists, craftsmen, gourmet food carts and the occasional quirky antique. Aren't fleas supposed to be... I dunno, dirt cheap? Expensive is how they roll in Brooklyn, I guess. This last statement sounded like Yoda, and I'm okay with that.
No matter, it was a lovely day. The twins came all the way to Brooklyn to meet up with us and see LP, and it reminded me of how I miss sometimes my pre-baby friendships, even as I know that our topics of conversation have changed forever. I can't go back, on a Tuesday night I'd rather hang out at home with the family than look for a bar in the East Village, but I do miss my friends. Mental note, must make plans to hang out with them again, in some middle point in Manhattan.
Temi also came to NY to spend the day, which added to the loveliness. After we looked around the Flea Market, marveled at the overpriced furniture and bought a few accessories/fun items, we headed out to the Havana Outpost, where we finished the afternoon with margaritas and grilled corn. I can't think of too many better ways to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.
And about my list? I ended up purchasing a set of screen printed pillow cases with an amazing graphic of the Brooklyn Bridge. They look amazing and were actually reasonably priced. The artist (who was there) must have gotten confused about which market day it was. Our plan is to frame them and hang them above our bed, since they look too nice to ruin them by actually putting our heads on them every night. Which, I know, I know, they're pillow cases, I should use them as such.
I'll post an update once we find the right frames and finish hanging them properly. Thus far we're having a hard time finding the right frames (in terms of shape, and color/thickness of the trim) that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Seriously, why are are frames so expensive in the US? We'll be taking a trip to Ikea soon and hopefully we'll find something very clean and very Swedish to fix the problem.
